High-Precision Zirconia Ceramic Gauge Blocks (ISO 3650 Standard)
Ceramic gauge blocks, also known as ceramic block gauges or ceramic gauges, are manufactured from the ultra-hard material zirconia (ZrO₂). They have a rectangular cross-section and feature a pair of parallel measuring surfaces. These surfaces can adhere to the measuring surfaces of another gauge block or to an object with similar measuring surfaces through molecular forces, making them a high-precision length measurement tool.
Product Overview
Meter Precision’s Ceramic Gauge Blocks represent the pinnacle of dimensional metrology. Manufactured from ultra-pure Zirconium Oxide (ZrO₂), these blocks are designed to overcome the limitations of traditional steel gauges. Unlike metal, ceramic is immune to corrosion from skin acids or humidity, making it the ideal choice for high-precision laboratories and demanding shop floors. Our blocks offer exceptional “wringability,” allowing for stable, high-accuracy stacks with minimal cumulative error. Whether for calibrating micrometers or acting as a primary reference standard, our ceramic gauges provide the “Universal Language of Length” with unmatched reliability.

Product Advantages
- The material boasts high hardness and excellent wear resistance, with a service life 5–10 times that of steel blocks and 4–5 times that of carbide blocks. It is currently the material with the longest service life and longest calibration intervals used in measuring instruments.
- Excellent corrosion resistance; it is not damaged by general chemical reagents and can be handled bare-handed during use without the need for anti-rust treatment. Lapping blocks can be stored for extended periods without requiring special treatment during use or storage.
- The material exhibits excellent stability with minimal annual variation, allowing for appropriately extended calibration intervals.
- Crafted from fine-grade material and super-finely ground, the blocks feature a smooth surface, high lapping force and superior lapping accuracy.
- With a coefficient of linear expansion similar to that of commonly used steel materials, they can replace metal blocks; no temperature correction is required when measuring the length of steel products.
- Non-magnetic and non-conductive, suitable for use in special applications.
- With over twenty years’ extensive experience in the production of ceramic gauge blocks, we possess multiple sets of international and domestic standards, as well as advanced imported gauge block testing equipment. We strictly adhere to relevant international standards and quality management system requirements throughout the entire process, from raw material preparation to machining, finished products and inspection. Having accumulated a wealth of production and sales experience over more than two decades, we continue to provide high-quality products and services to both new and existing customers.

FAQ about Plain Gauges
Ceramic blocks are rust-proof and do not require oiling before or after use. This makes them much cleaner and more efficient. Additionally, if a ceramic block is dropped, it doesn’t develop a “burr” that ruins the next measurement; it simply chips or remains flat.
Yes, they can be wrung together. However, we recommend using ceramic blocks for the entire stack to maintain consistent thermal expansion and avoid potential scratching of the steel surfaces by the harder ceramic.
It is slightly lower ($9.5 \times 10^{-6}$) compared to steel ($11.5 \times 10^{-6}$). For most workshop applications, this difference is negligible, but for ultra-high precision laboratory work, temperature compensation should be applied.
Yes. Every Meter Precision gauge block comes with a factory inspection report. We also offer optional third-party certification from CNAS or DAkkS accredited labs upon request.
